(By Jim Newton / Lake County News-Sun) "The kids want to know about the science, and they need to know how addictive these drugs are," he said of the opioid epidemic. Nerheim was one the founders of the Lake County Opioid Initiative,cheap pandora rings, which has successfully lobbied for new legislation to address the problem and save lives through actions such as providing opioid antidote shots to police and other first-responders. Nerheim said he now wants to build on those programs beyond the walls of the county's courthouse and jail. "I'd like to create a job program to help pair ex-offenders and employers," he said. "It's one of the ways we can combat recidivism and people falling back into the system or a criminal lifestyle." He said diversion programs and community outreach have helped create an atmosphere in which such a program could be more feasible. "I talk to a lot of these guys and they say, 'I just want a job so I can take care of myself and my family,cheap pandora jewelry,'" he said. At the Women's Club meeting Wednesday, Nerheim and Assistant State's Attorney Fred Day brought along Mitch, a yellow lab and one of the two comfort dogs his office received free through a special training program. While not often present in courtrooms, the dogs provide comfort to sexually and physically abused children at the office's Children's Advocacy Center and in the courthouse. The dogs can provide a bridge between children and investigators and even parents throughout the difficult process of investigating and prosecuting such crimes.
